The Federal Republic of The Wolf Hold is a colossal, safe nation, ruled by Consul Fell with an iron fist, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 6.449 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

Construction of the Really Big Hadron Collider is underway, the government has the power to seize property at will, criminals are thrown to the Wolfs to repay their debt to society, and politicians are often seen with soldiers pointing guns at their heads. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Wolf Hold's national animal is the Wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is the Vox Divina, and its currency is the Aurum.
