The Democratic Republican Empire of The Williamese is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Wilhelm the Great with an even hand, and notable for its national health service. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 5.7 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Commerce and Defence are on the agenda. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Eminent domain has been abolished, commuter vessels have trouble staying afloat due to increased passengers, the state pays for care of easily preventable illnesses, and Amnesty Interregional has condemned The Williamese for ignoring crimes against humanity. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is pervasive. The Williamese's national animal is the Owl, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Williamism, and its currency is the insert monetary unit here.

The Williamese is ranked 13th in Grand Central and 23,693rd in the world for Largest Public Sector, scoring 17 on the Bureaucratic Comprehensiveness Rating Scale Index.
