The Empire of The Virginian Republic is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by President Marcus Samuels with an even hand, and notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 2.492 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Defence, although Education and Social Welfare are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Alexandria. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 63%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing, Uranium Mining, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.

Military spending is on the increase, morning coffees are no longer the same since the disappearance of newspapers, rag-wearing teachers are often mistaken for homeless people, and a typical fast food menu item could serve a small army. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Virginian Republic's national animal is the Wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the credit.

The Virginian Republic is ranked 906th in the South Pacific and 22,158th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -10 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
