The Borderlands of The United Estates of America is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by a Whacko with a fair hand, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.274 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Education, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Gotham. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 59%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing, Information Technology, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.

Citizens are permitted to carry concealed handguns, senior citizens can usually be found doing heavy manual labour, government officials frequently cut taxes as a distraction from antics with their secretaries, and citizens applying for their first jobs face fierce competition from the homeless. Crime is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The United Estates of America's national animal is the Wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Dollar.

The United Estates of America is ranked 379th in the West Pacific and 13,402nd in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -8 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
