The Aretist Paradise of The Solstice Confederation is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.874 billion are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Antaevatum. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 12%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Tourism and Woodchip Exports.

Construction of the Really Big Hadron Collider is underway, the nation leads The Ascendancy in per capita stalking, an underground movement of cigarette smokers has sprung up in response to a government ban, and agricultural science is the most competitive subject at The Solstice Confederation's universities. Crime is a problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. The Solstice Confederation's national animal is the Achosul, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is The Cosmarchy, and its currency is the Buostor.

The Solstice Confederation is ranked 395th in The Ascendancy and 127,164th in the world for Most Income Equality, scoring 14 on the Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.
