The Armed Republic of The Praetorian Gaurd is a huge, economically powerful nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 451 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The tiny, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Commerce. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 6%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Door-to-door Insurance Sales, Furniture Restoration, and Beef-Based Agriculture industries.

Heavy industry must go to expensive lengths to dispose of waste, strict term limits have been applied to all elected offices, new safety regulations require all cars manufactured in The Praetorian Gaurd to be bombproof, and political activists are routinely executed. Crime is a problem. The Praetorian Gaurd's national animal is the Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Roman Coin.
