The Democratic Republic of The Pacific Northwestern Area is a massive, genial nation, ruled by The Ghost of Paul Wellstone with an even hand, and renowned for its museums and concert halls. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 3.283 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The government has adopted a "Lightning Never Strikes Twice" approach to dealing with natural disasters, the number of students attending university has reached a record high, space research funding has hit a recent high while several military bases are being closed down, and organ donation is compulsory. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. The Pacific Northwestern Area's national animal is the Timber wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Stuff.
