The Republic of The Orion Sword is a massive, economically powerful nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.799 billion enjoy great individual freedoms in everything except elections, which, where they exist at all, are populist shams for a dictatorship government that has no intention of ever giving up power.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Commerce, and Defence. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 5%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Basket Weaving, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.

Elections have been outlawed and surveillance cameras are banned. Crime is a major problem. The Orion Sword's national animal is the lepus, and its currency is the warbuck.

The Orion Sword is ranked 10th in Minnesota and 56,876th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -13 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
