The Grand Republic of The Marians is a colossal, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Ri Cameron Martin XVIII with an even hand, and notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5.8 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Education and Defence are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Reedus. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 51%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Tourism.

Morning coffees are no longer the same since the disappearance of newspapers, motels cater primarily to adulterers, the "Underwear of Women in Power" issue of The Reedus Times is sold out, and the new 'Things We Stole From Other Countries' exhibition at the National Museum of Antiquities is a hit. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Marians's national animal is the Python, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Paganism, and its currency is the Krona.

The Marians is ranked 612th in The North Pacific and 16,251st in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -9 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
