The United Insanity of The Foxfyre Islands is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by First Minister Isyrion Nyxx with a fair hand, and remarkable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 3.857 billion are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Commerce, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Terra Novae. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 37%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Information Technology and Automobile Manufacturing.

Elections have become procedural nightmares due to voters persistently rejecting candidates, the airship business has been driven out of the country by strict regulations and high fines, the breathalyser pledge is a traditional part of marriages in The Foxfyre Islands, and the 'kind of scrawny' 500 meter hurdle is a popular event. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Foxfyre Islands's national animal is the Kitsune, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is something involving caffeine, and its currency is the Foxfyre Yen.

The Foxfyre Islands is ranked 22nd in United Federation of Planets and 128,947th in the world for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring -81 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
