The Kingdom of The Communist Duchy is a massive, safe nation, ruled by King Kristen du Kierbstoven the Great with an even hand, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate population of 3.112 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kierbstoven. The average income tax rate is 90%, and even higher for the wealthy. A robust private sector is dominated by the Tourism industry.

The airship business has been driven out of the country by strict regulations and high fines, politicians are often seen with soldiers pointing guns at their heads, the police have been swamped with requests to stay up past bedtime, and citizens are encouraged to report friends, family members or co-workers who seem depressed to the government for "counselling". Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Communist Duchy's national animal is the cougar, and its currency is the pieces of eight.
