The Soviet Republic of The Burya Natsiya is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Premier Volkov with an iron fist, and renowned for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 2.444 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Molniya Goroda. The average income tax rate is 98%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing.

The government is well known for declaring war on other countries for suspected slights, traveller camps regularly block five-lane superhighways, citizens live in superstitious fear of the mysterious glowing clouds that float over The Burya Natsiya, and teenage fathers are forced to join the army. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Burya Natsiya's national animal is the Kodiak Bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is state atheism, and its currency is the Buryan Ruble.

The Burya Natsiya is ranked 115th in USSR and 92,720th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -24 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
