The Theocratic Dominion of The Beatus is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by His Holiness Edwardo Listless with an iron fist, and remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 10.061 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Religion & Spirituality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of The City of the Blessed. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Information Technology industries.

A dictator has seized power and outlawed elections, there has been a series of riots between local cannibals and health food advocates, The Beatus's newly-famous raindances to summon storms instead attract tourists from all over Minyang, and the nanny industry has had a boom after maternity leave was recently banned. Crime is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. The Beatus's national animal is the Penguin, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is the Path of the Blessed, and its currency is the Nokka.

The Beatus is ranked 1st in Minyang and 435th in the world for Largest Trout Fishing Sector, scoring 14 on the Nemo Depletion Efficiency Index.
