The Dominion of Thallian is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by the Mandar with an iron fist, and notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.52 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals is mainly concerned with Defence, although Commerce and Law & Order are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Thalliapolis. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Uranium Mining industries.

The armed forces are locked in an expensive and bloody war abroad to stamp out possible terrorists, military spending is on the increase, public nudity is compulsory, and all telephone traffic is monitored for 'national security reasons'. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Thallian's national animal is the spider, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Supremism, and its currency is the gold piece.

Thallian is ranked 11th in The Black Riders and 2,607th in the world for Largest Mining Sector, scoring 10 on the Blue Sky Asbestos Index.
