The Republic of Terripin is a colossal, socially progressive nation, ruled by Higgen Welsh with a fair hand, and renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5.261 billion enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Nova Astrif. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 30%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling, Book Publishing, and Tourism industries.

Politicians have to be granted day-release from prison to speak on bills, notable individuals are granted land and titles, the welfare administration’s new sweeping authority has forced the poor and needy to shop from pre-approved grocery lists, and Terripin's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Terripin's national animal is the panda, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the sem.

Terripin is ranked 3rd in Space Station 14 and 27,927th in the world for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring 36 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
