The Free Land of Tengha is a huge, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 927 million live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Social Welfare and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Proudspire. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Book Publishing, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Elevator music has been replaced by thrash metal played at maximum volume, politicians constantly ring their voters to remind them how good a job they're doing, the mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas, and foreigners are treated with great suspicion. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Tengha's national animal is the Dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Turing.

Tengha is ranked 214th in Capitalist Paradise and 48,302nd in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -12 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
