Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 7.281 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Temple of Memorial City. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Woodchip Exports industries.

Scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, reporters often lose their jobs over fact-checking errors, the public are free to vote for whomever the government wants in office, and small businesses are gobbled up almost daily by corporate giants. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Temple of Memorial's national animal is the pet rock, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Tom koku.
