The Constitutional Republic of Tekania is a gargantuan, cultured nation, ruled by President DuPuy with a fair hand, and renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 15.635 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Public Transport, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Yorktown. The average income tax rate is 77%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Book Publishing.

Major internet servers have acquired citizenship and are voting in national elections, minority children spend hours bussing to schools miles away from home, the government is well known for declaring war on other countries for suspected slights, and businesses that prove successful are immediately broken up. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Tekania's national animal is the Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Credit.

Tekania is ranked 3,339th in Lazarus and 93,952nd in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -231 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
