The Republic of Tarrenh is a huge, socially progressive nation, ruled by Leader with a fair hand, and notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 818 million are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The medium-sized, pro-business government devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Social Welfare and Social Equality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Tarrenh City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 17%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism, Automobile Manufacturing, and Information Technology industries.

Leader has just been declared ruler of Tarrenh in an international press conference, small businesses are gobbled up almost daily by corporate giants, Pinkerton agents are called in to forcibly break up white collar strikes, and the military has had to quell a recent insurrection by uninsured revolutionaries. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Tarrenh's national animal is the Dog, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Dollar.
