The Technocracy of Tandem is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by Provost Zakharov with an even hand, and renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 10.765 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals is mainly concerned with Education, although the Environment and Healthcare are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Tandem City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 1%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Tandem is building an army to protect its overseas territories, the government is avowedly atheist, prime real estate is devoted to wind farms and solar energy generators, and financial crimes carry severe sentences. Crime is totally unknown. Tandem's national animal is the hedgehog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the credit.
