The United Socialist States of Sylenza is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Chairman Biersacken with an even hand, and notable for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 2.317 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Healthcare and Law & Order are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Caprica City. The average income tax rate is 51%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Uranium Mining.

The military is blowing up any threat to employment within the nation, record sales of 'child-whacking sticks' have been reported, schools have extensive counseling programs for troubled students, and traffic jams are a common sight due to construction work from a massive overhaul of the nation's freeways. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Sylenza's national animal is the Truman Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is The New 12 Lords of Kobol, and its currency is the New Cubit.

Sylenza is ranked 2,411th in the West Pacific and 51,220th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -12 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
