The Republic of SussexCity is a colossal, genial nation, ruled by Emperor Maximus with an even hand, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5.318 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Healthcare and Social Equality are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Brighton. The average income tax rate is 75%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.

Commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies, anti-government political posters adorn every building like wallpaper, expensive lawyers are hired to defend citizens in court for public urination charges against their pets, and public footpaths are being slowly eroded by the burgeoning number of ramblers. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. SussexCity's national animal is the springer spaniel, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the pound.

SussexCity is ranked 999th in Europeia and 85,294th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -19 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
