The Emirate of Sucks is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Sir Sucks Big Time with an iron fist, and renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 1.266 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Sucks A Lot. The average income tax rate is 68%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The government has cut its subsidies for all special interest groups, citizens are regularly arrested in queues for 'loitering', psychological disorders are a taboo subject, and Red Cross demand for body bags are rising while sutures are decreasing. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Sucks's national animal is the Ocelot, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Suckubus, and its currency is the Awe.

Sucks is ranked 30th in The Vast and 86,764th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -20 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
