The Matriarchy of Stoweton is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Matriarch Mason with an iron fist, and remarkable for its unlimited-speed roads. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.533 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

The enormous, corrupt, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Lincoln. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 16%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Pizza Delivery.

Major cities shut down as their local sports team takes to the field every day, the government has the power to seize property at will, the world outside is only known of in folklore, and police officers have nearly cracked a major underage astronomy syndicate. Crime is a major problem. Stoweton's national animal is the Black Dog, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Lincolnism, and its currency is the Gold Eagle.
