The Orion Republic of Steel Butterfly is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, notable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 19.478 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Monarch Heights. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 38%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Gambling.

More and more students are taking up a career in medicine, trade is bringing a wide selection of strange resources and technologies into Steel Butterfly although importers have the highest mortality rate in the nation (Steel Butterfly has found 1 easter eggs), the people are famous throughout the region for their bleached-white teeth, and manual labourers must be willing to have cybernetic limbs to get a job. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Steel Butterfly's national animal is the Fenrir Wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Imperial Credit.
