OverviewPeopleGovernmentEconomyTrendAnalysis

The Republic of SteamEngine is a gargantuan, genial nation, ruled by Hans Dampf with an even hand, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, intelligent population of 20.16 billion SteamEngineans have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of James-Watt-City. The average income tax rate is 74%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Droves of former desperados are applying to join the border police, medical lawsuits are out of control, the people are famous throughout the region for their bleached-white teeth, and government officials have to mortgage their homes to make ends meet. Crime is totally unknown. SteamEngine's national animal is the firedrake, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the firegold.

SteamEngine is ranked 3rd in Deutschland and 1,240th in the world for Most Godforsaken, with 231 Dawkins.
