The Republic of Starigrad is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its complete lack of public education. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 1.295 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 1%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Book Publishing.

Citizens are allowed to rise or fall based on their own merits, the carcases of double-deckers can be found littering high streets all around the country, elections have become procedural nightmares due to voters persistently rejecting candidates, and new urban roads are threatening city parks. Crime is pervasive. Starigrad's national animal is the eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the dollar.
