“No One is Left Behind ”

The Republic of Sregal is a huge, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its hatred of cheese. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 642 million are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Equality, and Social Welfare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 54%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Notable individuals are granted land and titles, the poor are often seen pale and dizzy after selling their blood to make ends meet, 'The Anti-Government Hour' is a popular programme on many of Sregal's radio stations, and parents live in fear of governmental 'child protection' squads. Crime is well under control. Sregal's national animal is the saber tooth tiger, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the srea.
