The Democratic States of Species 10192 is a huge, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 852 million are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The enormous, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Law & Order, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Species 10192 City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 3%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Pizza Delivery.

Jails have become colloquially known as 'vampire houses', the streets are increasingly clogged with poverty-stricken beggars, Pinkerton agents are called in to forcibly break up white collar strikes, and major internet servers have acquired citizenship and are voting in national elections. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Species 10192's national animal is the Liberalist, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Nationstates Dollar.
