The Chronocracy of South Norfair is a colossal, socially progressive nation, ruled by Chancellor Stanovic with an even hand, and remarkable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 7.01 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ridley City. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Book Publishing and Retail.

South Norfair's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, South Norfair is notorious for its citizens' infidelity, a large percentage of the poor live from cradle to grave in subterranean wage slavery, and Saturday morning cartoons feature full frontal nudity. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. South Norfair's national animal is the Pterosaur, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the metroid.

South Norfair is ranked 1st in central europe and 2,114th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring 28 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
