School Class Nation

The Republic of Socrateous is a colossal, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its frequent executions and absence of drug laws. The hard-working, democratic population of 6.743 billion Socrateousians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The relatively small government is dominated by the Department of Environment, with Education also on the agenda, while Social Policy and Healthcare are ignored. The average income tax rate is 10.7%.

The strong Socrateousian economy, worth 137 trillion iPads a year, is driven almost entirely by government activity. The industrial sector is mostly comprised of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 20,457 iPads, with the richest citizens earning 5.4 times as much as the poorest.

Schoolchildren have twice-weekly sex education classes, Members of Parliament operate under a PAYE scheme, a survey of the nation's rivers and children has shown that pesticide levels are at an all-time regional high, and commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies. Crime is a problem. Socrateous's national animal is the Elephant, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Socrateous is ranked 1st in Amalgamated Passage of Pine and 109,265th in the world for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring -7 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
