The Brotherhood of Slabonthiam is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Queen Elizabeth with a fair hand, and renowned for its national health service. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 2.376 billion enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Education, although Social Welfare and the Environment are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Emerson Hollow. The average income tax rate is 88%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Anti-government web sites are springing up, parents live in fear of governmental 'child protection' squads, "it was only a joke" is no longer a defense for the felony of discrimination, and teenagers stay out into the wee hours of the morning "stargazing". Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Slabonthiam's national animal is the doe, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the shield.
