The Alterran Assembly of Skye City One is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Commander with an even hand, and renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 3.682 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Sky City Lounge. The average income tax rate is 26%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Soda Sales and Basket Weaving.

Commander has just been declared ruler of Skye City One in an international press conference, the government's official stance on religion is that it is so very silly, citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes, and citizens select which government department gets their income tax dollars each year. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Skye City One's national animal is the space station, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar.
