Children as young as twelve are conscripted into the armed forces, the judicial system legislates morality, citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes, and the welfare administration’s new sweeping authority has forced the poor and needy to shop from pre-approved grocery lists. Crime is a major problem. Shram's national animal is the polecat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the bread.
