The Democratic Republic of Shaluach is a huge, economically powerful nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 622 million are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Healthcare and Education receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Shaluach City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 4%. A large private sector is led by the Pizza Delivery industry, followed by Gambling and Information Technology.

Copyright laws have been abolished, those found guilty of illicit affairs are jailed, commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies, and Shaluach has designated Shaluach City as its capital city. Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Shaluach's national animal is the Octopus, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the STD.
