The Empire of Sertian is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Emperor Trillano Nekolyve with an even hand, and renowned for its museums and concert halls. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 8.232 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Lairemi. The average income tax rate is 35%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Information Technology.

Most governmental positions are filled by zealous nationalists, Sertian has designated Lairemi as its capital city, people are now classified as male, female, or genderqueer, and the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem. Sertian's national animal is the phoenix, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the zerat.

Sertian is ranked 10th in The Milky Way Galaxy and 4,048th in the world for Largest Trout Fishing Sector, scoring 6 on the Nemo Depletion Efficiency Index.
