The Free Land of Serised is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Arelytzin with a fair hand, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.271 billion love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Healthcare and Law & Order are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Mirror City. The average income tax rate is 38%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Tourism industry.

The new 'Things We Stole From Other Countries' exhibition at the National Museum of Antiquities is a hit, hundreds of thousands of convicts work as slaves in Serised's many privately-owned prisons, the government has cut taxes in the face of widespread tax evasion, and a ban on unsolicited cold calling in all forms is in effect. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Serised's national animal is the Kneazle, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Galleon.
