The Republic of Selfgradatude is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and renowned for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 4.471 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Selfgradatude City. The average income tax rate is 17%, but much higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Televangelists flaunt their expensive cars when they attend charity events, large areas of Selfgradatude are not accessible by the public, the tenet of free speech is held dear, and protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Selfgradatude's national animal is the golden eagle, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar.
