The Republic of Schlueter is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Jason with an even hand, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 9.879 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of San Dimas. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Information Technology and Uranium Mining.

The government is a clear-cut case of tyranny by majority, the streets are increasingly clogged with poverty-stricken beggars, councils up and down the country wrangle over legal matters, and the government jails the parents of underage drinkers. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Schlueter's national animal is the kitten, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the gumball.
