The United States of Scandaria is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Leroy with an even hand, and renowned for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 3.104 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Scandar. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 80%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Gambling and Furniture Restoration.

Voting is voluntary, criminals are put to death while cuddling their favourite teddy bear, notable individuals are granted land and titles, and the government awards prizes to television shows featuring stereotype-breaking minority roles. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Scandaria's national animal is the Meerkat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Lutheran, and its currency is the Klem.

Scandaria is ranked 9th in Chicago and 90,049th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -22 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
