The Republic of Sawia is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Vilhelm Klaus with an iron fist, and remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate, hard-working, cynical population of 1.663 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Alexandria. The average income tax rate is 93%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Uranium Mining.

Schoolchildren have twice-weekly sex education classes, gambling is outlawed, Pinkerton agents are called in to forcibly break up white collar strikes, and citizens must have a license to operate a computer. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Sawia's national animal is the Fox, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the Euro.

Sawia is ranked 70th in International Democratic Union and 94,338th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -25 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
