The Republic of Ryan is a massive, genial nation, ruled by Ryan with an even hand, and remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate population of 1.252 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Law & Order, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ryan City. The average income tax rate is 69%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Tourism industry.

Skateparks can be found in every city, motorists must pay to enter inner-cities during peak hours, artists are pillars of society, and manufacturers are sued for almost anything not covered in their catalogue-sized manuals. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Ryan's national animal is the Rhino, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the Rayon.

Ryan is ranked 3,961st in the West Pacific and 93,369th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -24 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
