The Rogue Nation of Rank and Vile is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its museums and concert halls. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.234 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Commerce, with areas such as Law & Order and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Contempt of Congress Park. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Automobile Manufacturing, and Book Publishing industries.

Tourists flock from around the world to see Rank and Vile's famed 'rainbow slums', people reciting Shakespeare have become a common sight, the government recently relinquished its monopoly on the mail service, and slime molds with strange deformities like three eyes and tentacles have been seen prancing through the countryside where industrial waste is dumped. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Rank and Vile's national animal is the slime mold, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the nugget.
