The People's Republic of Puiveldistan is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Secretary-General Vjatcheslav Borodin with an even hand, and remarkable for its national health service. Its hard-nosed population of 2.284 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Puivelde. The average income tax rate is 96%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.

The government has declined to declare any particular religion as its 'official' one, breastfeeding mothers are replacing smokers to loiter outside the workplace, jails have become colloquially known as 'vampire houses', and teams of painters are converting road signs from horse lengths to kilometers. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Puiveldistan's national animal is the Bear, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the PURO.
