The Holy Empire of Planet SR-388 is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with an iron fist, and remarkable for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 18.155 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Planet SR-388 City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 22%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.

Nervous homeowners have been blamed for rising death rates amongst carol singers and locksmiths, citizens drive tank-like vehicles with mounted machine guns, the country's famous rainforests are being bulldozed by the mining industry, and child adoption by homosexual couples has been outlawed. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Planet SR-388's national animal is the Metroid, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Chozo Artifact.

Planet SR-388 is ranked 2nd in Metroid and 91st in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring 94 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
