The Alpinos of Pietrant is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 1.264 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

The large, pro-business government concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Defence and Education are on the agenda. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 18%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Automobile Manufacturing.

Newspapers may not print any negative stories about the government, the words 'private' and 'enterprise' must never appear in the same sentence, gun ownership is compulsory, and Leader has just been declared ruler of Pietrant in an international press conference. Crime is moderate. Pietrant's national animal is the gizzmo, and its currency is the CRUSH.
