A cyber-war between file sharers and the music industry formats hard drives across the country, billions of Pan Dollars are being blown on orbital weapons development, the "Underwear of Women in Power" issue of The Mount Obsidian Times is sold out, and houses and businesses are bulldozed to make way for ever-expanding cemeteries. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Pannamer's national animal is the Blue Fox, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Divine Humanity, and its currency is the Pan Dollar.
