The Confederate States of Pandemicia is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by President Featherston with an iron fist, and remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 8.566 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, moralistic, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Richmond. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Information Technology industries.

A survey of the nation's rivers and children has shown that pesticide levels are at an all-time regional high, a large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, and phone taps are frequently carried out by the police. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Pandemicia's national animal is the Cougar, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Christianity, and its currency is the Confederate Dollar.

Pandemicia is ranked 34th in NAZI EUROPE and 128,834th in the world for Largest Public Sector, scoring -17 on the Bureaucratic Comprehensiveness Rating Scale Index.
