The Teritoriul liber of Palmopolis is a huge, cultured nation, ruled by Imperator Diurpaneus with a fair hand, and renowned for its museums and concert halls. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 799 million are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Commerce, with areas such as Social Equality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Curtici. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 42%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Automobile Manufacturing, and Gambling industries.

The government funds large training centres to turn Râss into functioning members of society, it is a common belief that a sport isn't sport if there are no decapitations, there has been a series of riots between local cannibals and health food advocates, and all marriages are arranged by the government. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is pervasive, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Palmopolis's national animal is the Râs, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Leu.

Palmopolis is ranked 3,348th in the Pacific and 76,213th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -16 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
