The White Republic of Palix is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by John Snow with an iron fist, and remarkable for its complete lack of public education. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 7.521 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded individuals juggles the competing demands of Defence, Commerce, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of White City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 3%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling, Soda Sales, and Basket Weaving industries.

Graffiti artists spend lengthy periods of time in jail, heavy industry grinds to a halt as new equipment must be biked in, the booming slave trade is now government-funded, and fur coats have become the latest fashion trend. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force. Palix's national animal is the mammoth, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Palixism, and its currency is the palix.

Palix is ranked 8th in REGIONS WILL FALL and 125,490th in the world for Largest Public Sector, scoring -4 on the Bureaucratic Comprehensiveness Rating Scale Index.
